SLICE MICRO/NANO data recorders and accessory products (such as the SLICE Distributor) use a common 12-conductor SLICE CHAIN connection scheme. The SLICE CHAIN contains power, USB communication, and control signals. Possible damage to the circuits of a SLICE Base or SLICE Distributor may occur when CHAIN cables are plugged in while system power is applied. The Omnetics connector locking clip can short across power pins on the Distributor port.
Connecting SLICE CHAIN cables to SLICE equipment while signals/power are active/hot is not supported. If a port or cable is "hot", incorrect connector orientation may cause a short and damage the equipment. The risk is eliminated by removing all power and signals to the SLICE system prior to connecting SLICE CHAIN cables into SLICE equipment. Applying power and other signals must be done after any and all SLICE CHAIN cables have been connected to the SLICE equipment.
DTS recommends removing all external power from SLICE hardware before modifying the hardware configuration.
